Final call for Gold Rush campus partner submissions

Campus units that have an event or program occurring between Aug. 16-25 that they would like included in fall 2019 Gold Rush (formerly Week of Welcome) should submit them by May 10.

FM supervisor: ‘When people are in need, you help’

It has been a busy week of volunteering for Jerry Womack, a zone supervisor in UNC Charlotte’s Facilities Management Department.

During Holy Week, Womack said his church, Ebenezer Baptist, holds a mission blitz. He packed food at the Second Harvest Food Bank and prepared packages of medical supplies that included items such as non-prescription drugs and bandages for distribution to needy people as part of North Carolina MedAssist.

Partial closure scheduled for Smith/Prospector ADA ramp

Construction will require a partial closure of the ADA ramp between the Smith and Prospector buildings from 7 a.m., Monday, April 22, through 6 p.m., Friday, April 26.

Expect construction fencing and personnel in the area along with an alternate ADA access route. There may be periods of construction noise, too.

Remember to exercise caution when approaching construction areas.

Former Observer reporter joins Urban Institute

Ely Portillo, a longtime reporter for the Charlotte Observer, recently joined UNC Charlotte’s Urban Institute as assistant director for outreach and strategic partnerships.  He will oversee the institute’s online engagement activities, including its coverage of regional policy issues and the dissemination of research findings.

Temporary sidewalk and lane closure scheduled

Construction of an ADA crosswalk will require a temporary closure at the intersection of Mary Alexander and Craver Roads from 7 a.m., Wednesday, April 17, through 5 a.m., Thursday, April 18.

Expect barricades and heavy equipment and construction personnel in this area. Remember to exercise caution when approaching construction zones.

Stevie Wall, Police and Public Safety, needs shared leave donations. The Benefits Office will accept donations through April 26.

Belk College professor recognized for leadership of honors programs

Ted Amato was honored recently for his leadership of the Belk College of Business Honors and Belk Scholars programs.

Amato, who has directed the Business Honors Program since 2008 and the Belk Scholars Program since its inception in 2014, is concluding his leadership of these programs at the end of the current academic year. He will continue to teach and conduct research in the Belk College of Business.
