Works by art faculty to be part of Spartanburg Museum exhibition
Five faculty members of the Department of Art and Art History will be part of the group exhibition “Pacts and Invocations: Magic and Ritual in Contemporary Art,” which opens Thursday, June 23, at the Spartanburg Art Museum.
Curated by Assistant Professor of Print Media Erik Waterkotte, “Pacts and Invocation” will feature work by 10 artists, including UNC Charlotte faculty members Malena Bergmann, Aspen Hochhalter, Anna Kenar, Janet Williams and Waterkotte.

Transmission and Distribution World features EPIC
UNC Charlotte’s Energy Production and Infrastructure Center (EPIC) recently was featured on the website Transmission and Distribution World.
In an article on the website, EPIC was called one of the “biggest university/industry partnerships in the country.”
EPIC director Johan Enslin invited Transmission and Distribution World Strategic Director Rich Bush, a mechanical engineer, to visit the facility. He was “mesmerized with the million pound, 32-foot high wall where EPIC researchers can evaluate transmission foundations and tower sections.”

Conference USA announces comprehensive TV packages
Conference USA has reached a new multi-year agreement for a comprehensive national television package with four leading outlets: ESPN, CBS Sports Network, the American Sports Network (ASN) and beIN SPORTS. The University is among the 14 member institutions of this athletic conference.
“We explored a number of traditional, digital and additional outlets during the negotiation process,” said C-USA commissioner July MacLeod. “Our interests are aligned, and we are very excited about the potential of these partnerships.

Test of emergency alert systems scheduled
UNC Charlotte will test its emergency alert systems between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 31.
All communications will indicate that a test is in progress and that no actual emergency exists. Emergency alert tests occur periodically throughout the year as part of the University’s emergency preparedness program. No special action by members of the campus community should be necessary during this test.

Social work professor to moderate ‘Homelessness in Charlotte’
Lori Thomas, an associate professor in the School of Social Work, will moderate the panel discussion “Homelessness in Charlotte.”

Fourth round of funding available through SPRINT Program
UNC Charlotte’s Graduate School and the State of São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) are entering the fourth round of funding for University and São Paulo-based researchers through the joint initiative known as the SPRINT Program.

Doctoral student receives $20,000 national fellowship
Counseling student LaTonya Summers is one of 22 doctoral scholars across the United States to be selected for the Minority Fellowship Program by the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC).
As a result of this honor, Summers will receive $20,000 and training to support her education and facilitate her efforts with underserved minority populations.

Annual awards ceremony recognizes outstanding police officers, employees
Members of the UNC Charlotte Police and Public Safety Department (PPS) are dedicated to serving the campus with distinction, and National Police Week provided an appropriate opportunity to honor outstanding members of the department.
Kenny Elmore was named Officer of the Year at Friday’s awards ceremony; he also was recognized with a promotion to field training officer. Barbara Brookover received a promotion to telecommunications supervisor; she is the first in the UNC system to achieve this advanced employment level.
